Wine tourism experience

Get to know and enjoy the heroic viticulture of Ribeira Sacra, vineyards grown on impossible slopes that mark the history of this region.

The production of these wines, as well as the cultivation of grapevines, was introduced by Roman colonizers to these lands more than two thousand years ago. Later it was the Christian monks who took over this activity and today its production continues to be the economic engine of the region.

The Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin was created in 1997 and has an area of more than 1,500 hectares dedicated to vineyards, which represents more than 5% of the total Galician land used for wine production. Ribeira Sacra is divided into five cultivation subzones: Chantada, Ribeira do Miño, Amandi, Ribeira do Sil and Quiroga Bibei.

In wine production, the varieties of Mencía, Brancellao and Merenzao stand out for red wines and Godello, Albariño and Treixadura grapes for white wines. They are mainly young wines, although aged reds are also produced. Very close to A Fábrica da Luz, in the wineries where the heroic vineyards are cultivated in Parada de Sil, you can enjoy different experiences that convey the entire history and future of wine in Ribeira Sacra.
